Inclusive Laws and Policies

Protecting Indigenous Land and Resource Rights
Our advocacy work is centered around ensuring equitable representation in shaping legal and political frameworks, a cornerstone of our mission. We believe that community-driven legislative development is key to aligning governance structures with Indigenous peoples’ expectations and goals. We also actively lobby for and support the implementation of pro-Indigenous and pastoralist policies at both county and national levels.

“Inclusive policies are crucial for Indigenous peoples to safeguard and manage their ancestral lands effectively.”

The Challenge

Indigenous Representation: A Continued Struggle
To counteract historical marginalization and secure a future where Indigenous peoples inform and benefit from policies that impact their land and lives, we must ensure their active participation and representation at all levels of governance.

Our Solution

We empower Indigenous peoples to shape policies that impact their lives by enhancing their ability to influence policy landscapes, drive implementation through legal avenues and advocacy, and ensure equitable representation.

Our efforts are directed toward two key areas:

Building Policy Influence
  • Enabling Indigenous communities to navigate political landscapes
  • Developing strategic advocacy campaigns for reform
Driving Implementation at All Levels
  • Providing legal support, litigation, and land rights advocacy
  • Lobbying for pro-Indigenous and pastoralist policies

“The founder of IMPACT speaks Maa and helped us understand the Community Land Act. They even hired a Maasai advocate to translate legal documents, making them accessible to everyone in our community.”

IMPACT in Action

Twala Cultural Manyatta—Helping Women Navigate the Community Land Act and Secure Land Title
Twala Cultural Manyatta, an umbrella body of six constituent subgroups, is a collective of women who steward 40 acres of community land, fostering progress and livelihood.
  • IMPACT assisted Twala in understanding and navigating the complexity of the Community Land Act.
  • IMPACT’s founder translated legal documents into Maa for the Maasai community.
  • IMPACT hired a Maasai advocate to provide legal support and ensure the community’s interests were represented throughout the land registration process.
  • By simplifying the process and ensuring the community was aware of their rights, IMPACT addressed the challenges that isolated, nomadic, and seminomadic communities face.

“Now, with the Community Land Act, women are included, participate in the community, and have power in every decision made about land.”

Together, we make an impact.

Stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples for land rights, sustainable livelihoods, and cultural preservation.
