Lawrence Lmatarin
Natural Resource Management &Governance Coordinator

Lmatarin Leiyopoko serves as a Natural Resource Management and Governance Coordinator, where he supports community institutions to strengthen their capacity in managing natural resources amid the growing challenges of climate change. His work focuses on improving governance systems and promoting sustainable resource use at the community level. Driven by a deep connection to land and livelihoods, Lmatarin is motivated by the need to help communities adapt to climate change while safeguarding their future. He is particularly passionate about addressing the imbalance between resource use and sustainability, working to ensure that communities can thrive without degrading the ecosystems they depend on. At the heart of his work is a commitment to community-led solutions. He believes that sustainable and lasting change can only be achieved when local communities are empowered to lead, make decisions, and manage their own resources in ways that reflect their knowledge and realities.

When the laptop closes, Lmatarin is a practicing pastoralist who finds fulfillment intending to livestock and spending time in the rangelands. His weekends are often spent with cattle, reconnecting with pastoral life and drawing inspiration from the very landscapes and communities he works to support.
