Alliance for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IP&LCs) for Conservation in Africa (AICA)

Amplifying Indigenous Voices for Conservation and Rights

AICA, an IPLCs-led pan-African alliance hosted by IMPACT, prioritizes Indigenous engagement in policy arenas related to land, resources, territories, and conservation. By focusing on visibility, equity, and meaningful participation, AICA upholds IP&LCs’ collective and individual rights.

AICA was born out of several engagements of IPLCs, including participation in the first of IPLCs in the first Africa Protected Areas Congress (APAC) in Kigali (Rwanda) in July 2022. This was followed up by two meetings in Nairobi in December 2022 and March 2023; 16 countries have been represented in these meetings. AICA derives its mandate from the IPLC declaration and is anchored on regional networks on the continent. The alliance is hosted by Indigenous Movement for Peace and Conflict Transformation (IMPACT, Kenya) and governed by a steering committee with representatives from all regions in Africa.

Together, we make an impact.

Stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples for land rights, sustainable livelihoods, and cultural preservation.
