“You know, peace starts in your home and your heart.”

Salim Iparayan Lesachore

Chairman, Sambura East Subcounty Peace Committee | Samburu County, Kenya

A Journey Toward Peace

After serving as a senior chief in the Wamba location for 25 years, I was appointed as a Peace Chair. My work is valuable because I am integrated into the community and understand that peace is essential for individuals to thrive in their work and personal lives.

IMPACT's Intervention

Before IMPACT’s intervention, our young people would engage in cattle rustling, believing it showcased their strength and health. However, when IMPACT came in, we started speaking with the young people, guiding them toward the right path and educating them about the consequences of their choices.

Empowering Youth for Change

We now better understand our young people, and more are willing to contribute to promoting peace. We are using these young ambassadors to engage with other young people, helping them understand each other and work toward achieving peace.

Addressing Major Challenges

We face two major challenges in Samburu East: road banditry and cattle rustling. With IMPACT’s support, we are working to educate and engage with those involved in these activities, helping them understand the importance of peace and the negative impact of their actions. Although change takes time, we are committed to resolving these issues and finding solutions.

Unity for Lasting Peace

You know, peace starts in your home and your heart. IMPACT has brought positive change to our community, leading us toward peace. We believe that without peace, nothing will be positive. When the government and IMPACT work together, they ensure the peace and safety of our people. Through our unity, we can achieve lasting peace and create an environment where people can work without interruptions.
