“With each educated child, restored acre, and halted conflict, we see IMPACT’s hand shaping a future where peace is the norm, not the exception.”
Deputy County Commissioner | Samburu Central, Samburu County, Kenya
As the Deputy County Commissioner for Samburu Central, I’m at the center of conflict resolution. IMPACT is one of our key partners, categorized under nonstate actors, that supports government programs in mitigating conflicts, disputes, banditry, and theft.
I work toward creating peace in Samburu Central, where the pastoralist communities of Turkana, Samburu, and Pokot intersect. At the start of my tenure, I tried to understand the community’s needs and concerns. I signed a memorandum with the grazing committees. This initiative, facilitated by IMPACT, went beyond a mere agreement; it symbolized our shared commitment to survival and emphasized the importance of using our resources responsibly and sustainably.
A football match isn’t just a game when it unites warring tribes. I remember the football match organized by IMPACT that went beyond our tribal lines. That happy day, with trophies and friendships, showed us all that when we share moments, even in divided communities, we have the power to heal and unite.
IMPACT and administrators like me are deeply committed to addressing various issues, from land ownership to environmental care. Through our collaborative efforts in workshops and dialogues, we are creating pathways to peaceful coexistence and improving our land for the benefit of all.
With each educated child, restored acre, and halted conflict, we see IMPACT’s hand shaping a future where peace is the norm, not the exception.
IMPACT bridges the gap between the government and the community. They organize grazing committees, train community members, and help set the rules for grazing. This prevents conflicts over resources and creates an orderly way of life.
I would like to see IMPACT reach out to the neighboring county, Baringo, to bring them up to speed on conflict resolution. Empowering our neighbors makes them more understanding and open to opportunities for peace.
In our story, women and education play important roles in building a better future. Thanks to the government’s support and initiatives from IMPACT, we hold on to hope. I envision a time when our youth will appreciate what truly matters: living in harmony and managing our land and livestock sustainably.
